12 Pubs of Christmas Galway Pub Crawl

12 Pubs of Christmas Galway Pub Crawl

After the success that was 'The 12 pubs of Christmas in Dublin' we now have created a pub crawl for the city of Galway. ‘The 12 Pubs of Christmas’ is an old Irish tradition and should be celebrated in every city. As mentioned before you can now experience the tradition in Galway.

The pub crawl is quite a challenge and not for the faint-hearted. The rules are simple. You have to finish a drink in every pub, and each pub has its own specific rule. The rules will be explained further below in the section dedicated to each pub. Breaking a rule means taking a shot. Yes, this is truly an event for enthusiastic drinkers.

We know that this tradition is often undertaken by larger groups, which can sometimes get a bit rowdy. That is why we have carefully selected pubs that are more accustomed to this kind of clientele.

We hope that you enjoy the FREE pub crawl and have a wonderful Christmas! Let us know what you think via our social media channels.

THE PUBS

Skeffington Arms Hotel

The Skeffington Arms is one of the best-known pubs in the city, famous throughout Ireland. And what suits this pub better than the country’s most iconic beer? Here, the rule is simple: you have to drink a pint of Guinness.

Garavan's Bar

Nicholas Killoury was the legendary barman known for his unfailing good humour and lively wit. In his honour, the rule is that you must tell a joke to a stranger. If you make them laugh, you’re off the hook, but if they don’t laugh, you have to take a shot.

Taaffes Bar

Taaffes Bar has live music almost every night, so you can sit back and enjoy the tunes, but don’t get too distracted. The rule here is that you must hold your drink in your left hand (or in your right hand if you’re left-handed).

Tig Cóilí

This pub is very popular with tourists, especially American visitors, as you can see from all the American police badges hanging on the walls. The rule here is that you must speak in a New York accent. If you are actually from New York, then you have to use an Irish accent instead.

The Kings Head

It is said that the king who was beheaded, and who gives the pub its name, was not exactly famous for embracing new ideas. In honour of his rather stubborn attitude, you must order a drink that you have never tried before. If he had been a bit more adventurous, he might have kept his head.

Murphy's Bar

Murphy’s Bar is a very cosy pub, although you might not wish to linger for too long. The rule here is as follows. You are not allowed to use the toilet. It adds a certain sense of urgency to your visit and encourages you to drink responsibly, or at least quickly.

Sonny Molloy's

After a few drinks, your social battery should be fully charged. The rule here is simple. You must have conversations with each other and resist the temptation to look at your phone. Remember, phones don’t laugh at your jokes, but your mates might.

The Bunch of Grapes

In this pub, taking care of each other is part of the fun. The rule is that you must feed a drink to a friend. Think of it as a liquid handshake or a very wet act of kindness.

The Dew Drop Inn

For those of you who are a bit foul-mouthed, the rule in this pub can be quite challenging. You must watch your language, as swearing is not allowed.

Tigh Neachtain

For anyone who is not familiar with the Irish language, the name of this pub can be a real tongue twister. The rule fits the theme perfectly. You are not allowed to say the names of your mates.

M. Fitzgerald's Bar

As you enter M. Fitzgerald’s Bar, you can almost smell victory, as it is nearly the last stop on your pub crawl. The rule here is that you must swap one shoe with a friend. After such a long crawl, this can be quite the challenge.

The Quays Bar

The Quays Bar is the perfect place to end your pub crawl. It is always buzzing and feels like one big party. Now that you have conquered all the pubs, the only rule is that you have a blast and try not to stay out too late.
